چکیده

We investigate contributions to the extragalactic gamma-ray background (EGB) due to neutralino dark matter (DM) pair-annihilation into photons, from DM density enhancements (minispikes) surrounding intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs). We focus on two IMBH formation scenarios; our conservative scenario where IMBHs are remnants of Population-III stars, and our optimistic scenario here IMBHs are formed in protogalactic disks. In both scenarios, their formation in pregalactic halos at high redshift lead to the formation of minispikes that are bright sources of gamma-ray photons. Taking into account minispike depletion processes, we only sum contributions from a cosmological distribution of IMBHs with maintained minispikes. Our conservative scenario (BH mass 10M⊙ with a r minispike) predicts gamma-ray fluxes that are an order larger than the equivalent flux, using the same DM parameters (mass 100GeV and annihilation cross-section 3 × 10 cm s), from the host halo without IMBH minispikes. Our optimistic scenario (BH mass 10M⊙ with a r minispike) predicts fluxes that are three orders larger, that can reach current EGB observations taken by EGRET (DM parameters as above). This fact may serve interesting consequences for constraining DM parameters and elucidating the true nature of IMBHs. Additionally, we determine the spectra of DM annihilation into monochromatic gamma-rays, and show that its flux can be within observational range of GLAST, providing a potential ‘smoking-gun’ signature of DM.

Can dark matter annihilation dominate the extragalactic gamma-ray background?

Annihilating dark matter (DM) has been discussed as a possible source of gamma rays from the galactic center and as a contribution to the extragalactic gamma-ray background. Assuming universality of the density profile of DM halos, we show that it is quite unlikely that DM annihilation is a main constituent of extragalactic gamma-ray background, without exceeding the observed gamma-ray flux fro...

Gamma-ray Emission from Dark Matter Wakes of Recoiled Black Holes

A new scenario for the emission of high-energy gamma-rays from dark matter annihilation around massive black holes is presented. A black hole can leave its parent halo, by means of gravitational radiation recoil, in a merger event or in the asymmetric collapse of its progenitor star. A recoiled black hole which moves on an almost radial orbit outside the virial radius of its central halo, in th...

Black Holes as Dark Matter Annihilation “Boosters”

The presence and growth of Intermediate and Supermassive Black Holes modify the surrounding distribution of stars and Dark Matter, and inevitably affect the prospects for indirectly detecting Dark Matter through its annihilation products. We show here that under specific circumstances, Black Holes can act as Dark Matter annihilation “boosters”. In particular, we show that mini-spikes, i.e. Dark...

Soft gamma - ray background and light Dark Matter annihilation

The bulk of the extragalactic background between 10 keV and 10 GeV is likely to be explained by the emission of Seyfert galaxies, type Ia supernovae, and blazars. However, as revealed by the INTEGRAL satellite, the bulge of our galaxy is an intense source of a 511 keV gamma-ray line, indicating the production of a large number of positrons that annihilate. The origin of the latter is debated, a...

Intermediate mass black holes and nearby dark matter point sources: a critical reassessment.

Dark matter (DM) "minispikes" around intermediate mass black holes are sometimes quoted as one of the most promising targets for indirect DM searches. Here, we stress that existing cosmic ray data place severe constraints on the possibility to detect DM annihilation signals from these objects in gamma rays; observational prospects for neutrinos or charged cosmic rays seem even worse. Similar bo...
